Breed doesn't change a cat's cost the way it changes a dog's โ there's no giant-vs-toy, $22k-vs-$55k spread in the cat world. Almost every cat lands in the same $15,000โ$30,000 lifetime range. What breed does change is where in that range you land and why: how much grooming you're signing up for, and which expensive inherited conditions are more likely.
This page compares the most-searched cat breeds on exactly those terms. The full guides go deep on one breed each; every health-cost figure traces to our master condition table, not numbers invented per page.

Coat and lifespan are widely published breed norms. "Top health-cost driver" is the inherited condition most worth budgeting for โ not a guarantee your cat will develop it. Lifetime cost for every breed sits within the site's $15,000โ$30,000 cat band; grooming-heavy and long-lived breeds skew to the upper half.

How breed changes the number
- Grooming. A short-haired Bengal or Siamese is close to zero grooming cost. A Persian needs daily brushing and periodic professional trims; a Maine Coon needs regular brushing to avoid mats. That's the most predictable breed-driven cost.
- Inherited conditions. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) shows up across many breeds; Persians add polycystic kidney disease (PKD); flat-faced breeds add dental and eye costs. Buying from a breeder who DNA-tests and screens parents is the cheapest way to shrink these odds.
- Lifespan. A longer-lived breed simply runs up more years of $1,500โ$2,400/year care โ more total cost, spread thinner.
- What breed doesn't change much: food, litter, and routine vet care are similar across cats. Size (a big Maine Coon) nudges food and litter up, but it's a small effect next to grooming and health risk.
